A Pictorial History of Baxter Springs, Kansas (1994)

For those of you who may have seen this picture labeled "Picher" in a recent book or website.  This picture, with explanation below, is in the above mentioned book!

R. A. Hibbard is shown as he traveled the streets of Baxter Springs in 1880, with a wagon load of corn on its way to the mill in Lowell, Kansas. Hibbard settled in this area in 1870 and built a cabin on Shoal Creek which today has been reconstructed on the grounds of the Baxter Springs Historical Museum. The location of the photograph is possibly at Eleventh Street and Military Avenue.
