Rose Alice Jones-York

Oklahoma recently lost a treasured long time citizen and friend when Rose Alice Jones-York passed away from cancer at the age of 81. She had her loving family by her side when she died on August 29, 2016 at St. John's hospital in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Rose was born in Eaton, Colorado on January 23, 1935 to parents, Mary and Andrew Jones. Rose was the youngest of five children and at age five, Rose and her family moved back to her Dad's beloved state of Oklahoma where her family spent the rest of their lives in the northern Oklahoma area of Miami.

Rose met the love of her life, Paris York, in her freshman year at Pitcher High School and they created a beautiful life together for the next 65 years. They were blessed with their first child, Larry York in 1954, while Paris was serving overseas. Two years later they were blessed with their daughter, Cindy York, and eight years after that they were blessed with another son, Victor York.

Rose studied bookkeeping and administration in school and she worked in this capacity when they lived in Poteau and Adair, Oklahoma. In 1966 Rose and her family settled in Broken Arrow where they lived in the same house for 50 years. Soon after, she accepted a position at the Tulsa Mingo School District where she was the Executive Administrative Assistant to the School Superintendent. She was later promoted to the District Treasurer of the Mingo School District where she remained for 26 years before officially retiring in 1996.

Throughout her years her favorite volunteer work at the Church of Christ was working with young children. She prepared little ones to attend Bible class for the first time by singing Bible songs and telling them Bible stories. The children loved Ms. Rose because they were all special to her.

After retirement Rose was able to devote her time in doing what she loved best and that was taking care of her granddaughter, Bekah, along with caring for other babies at the Church of Christ Kids Kare Program. Rose also enjoyed her retirement working as a part time receptionist at Indian Springs Country Club where she enjoyed greeting and servicing Members and Guests for 16 years.

Rose devoted the majority of her life to raising her children and was a wonderful and amazing Mother! She loved to cook, bake, clean, garden, decorate, care for pets, and spend time with her family and grandchildren. One of her greatest joys was making a special home for her children and husband. She dedicated her life in the interest of her children; her husband's career, and entertaining and caring for extended family.

Rose was also a die-hard OU Football Fan and she loved gospel music sung by Elvis Presley.

Rose will be remembered for being friends with everyone, for her sweet ways, caring heart and genuine smile! She was a loving and devoted wife, sister, aunt, friend, selfless Mother and devoted Grandmother who was deeply loved and will be sadly missed.

Rose is survived by her 3 children: son, Larry York and his wife, Liz; daughter, Cindy Eberting and her husband, Casey; son, Victor York and his wife, Teresa;
