Marion Kingfisher Thompson of Miami, OK passed away Thursday August 2, 2012 at Mercy Hospital in Joplin, MO. She was 71.   She was a 1959 graduate of Picher-Cardin High School.

Marion Kingfisher Thompson was born July 3, 1941 in Zena, Ok. to Sam and Ollie Lawhead Kingfisher. She is a member of the Cherokee Nation. She has three Sisters, Louise Kingfisher King, Lucinda Kingfisher Sveen and Gladys Kingfisher Thatcher. Two brothers, Duke Kingfisher who lost his life in 1942 fighting for us in World War II and Elmer Kingfisher who was well known and respected in the Native American community. She also leaves many nieces and nephews who loved and cherished her. She was their Aunt Sissy. She graduated from NEO College with a nursing degree. She married the love of her life, Patrick Thompson April 8, 1963. They have been married for 49 years. She has lived in the Miami area all of her life.

Marion has led a long professional life in the nursing profession. She worked at Melody Nursing Home and Ed Walker Nursing Home which was the first nursing home in Miami. She spent 8 years at Miami Baptist Hospital and 12 years at Miami Indian Clinic which she enjoyed very much. That is where she realized how much she loved the Indian people. She was also honored to serve as a Indian Princess at one of the area pow wows. She retired in 1990 due to health problems. She wants to think the Great Creator for the love he instilled in her and for the wonderful life he gave her, and for all her many friends.

Funeral Services will be Monday August 6, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at the Paul Thomas Funeral Home of Miami, OK. Morgan Maguire will officiate. Interment will be in G.A.R. Cemetery in Miami, OK. The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Services are under the direction of the Paul Thomas Funeral Home of Miami, OK.
