Roy R. Heatherly 

 

Roy Roscoe Heatherly. 86, Went home to be with his Lord on Saturday, July 29, 2006.

He was born Nov. 26, 1919, in Chitwood, MO, to Samuel Heatherly and Mina Brown.

He married his “Sweetie Face”,  Leatha M. Rhodes on . April 22, 1939. She survives. They have lived in the Picher/Cardin area for most of their lives and moved to Commerce, Okla., in 1985. He worked hard his whole life and supported his family by lead and zinc mining, self-employed as a concrete mason and later retired as Ottawa County Commissioner of the Northern District after serving in that capacity for nearly 20 years. He shared his talented guitar playing at area   churches,   nursing homes and civic functions in the four state area. When he wasn't playing or teaching guitar, he was fishing or hunting deer. Even at age 84, he shot two deer and still managed to keep his friend's and family's freezers stocked with crappie.

In addition to his loving wife, he is survived by a son, Terry Heatherly and wife, Jerri, of Miami, Okla.; two daughters, Leia Rae Nowlin and husband, Dick, of Quapaw, Okla., and Janie Moore and husband. Rusty, of Baxter Springs, Kan.; a brother, Ray Paul Heatherly and wife, Alzada, of Peoria, Okla.; 10 grandchildren;  23  great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and a  host of dear friends. Roy was preceded in death by his mother and father; four brothers; and two sisters. The family will receive friends Monday, July 31, at 7 p.m. at Paul Thomas Funeral Home in Picher, Okla. Funeral services will be held

Tuesday, Aug. 1, at 10 a.m. at First Baptist Church, Cardin, Okla. Brothers' Clyde Stilley and Jerry VonMoss officiating. Interment will be in Glen Abbey  Cemetery in  Miami. Pallbearers will be grandsons. Brent Heatherly,  Keith   Heatherly,   Sean Moore, Dustin Nowlin and sons-in-law, Dick Nowlin and Rusty Moore. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to The Gideons International in care of the funeral home.
