John Mott

John Charles Mott of Commerce, OK passed away Thursday, December 4, 2014 at Freeman Hospital in Joplin, MO He was 87.

John was born May 18, 1927 in Picher, OK to Floyd and Naomi (Jennings) Mott. He had lived in Picher most of his life till moving to Commerce in 2008. He worked at B.F.Goodrich in Miami, OK until his retiremen. He owned and operated Deer John’s Archery Shop in Picher and was a fireman and EMT for Picher Fire Department. . He served as Troop Leader for the Boy Scouts of America for many years and was on the Oklahoma Water Resources Board. He was a member of the Picher Lions Clube serving as President and for many years as Secretary John was an avid archer, hunter and fisherman. He and his late wife Shirley won the National Couples Archery Championship 2 years in a row 1969 and 1970. He was inducted into the Oklahoma Archery Hall of Fame in 2013.

He married Shirley Woodworth on July 22, 1945 in Picher . She preceded him in death May 6, 2011, he was also preceded by his son Mickey Mott in 2006, his parents, 1 brother Larry Mott and a sister Charlotte Crow.

Survivors include two grandchildren, Brad Mott of Commerce, OK and Geneva Fields of Miami, OK and 4 great -grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be Wednesday, December 10, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at the Paul Thomas Funeral Home Chapel in Miami, OK. Pastor Bill Richey will officiate. Pallbearers will be Danny Garner, Tommy Houston, Buddy Kerley, Jerry Bayliss, Johnny Sparkman and Mike Bass. Interment will be in G.A.R. Cemetery in Miami, OK. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday evening at the Paul Thomas Funeral Home Chapel in Miami. Services have been placed in the care of Paul Thomas Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Miami, OK.
